Home Remedies to Keep Mosquitoes Away
Now that summer has officially began, we Hoosiers know the territory that comes with it: humidity and mosquitoes. Mosquitoes have especially been on my mind as we’ve seen such much rain recently. All that rain is going to lead to still water all around our neighborhoods which makes for perfect breeding ground for our most dreaded summer guest: the mosquito.
There are few worse feelings than enjoying a summer night- breathing the fresh air, hearing the bugs in the trees and kids playing, enjoying a refreshing beverage- and having your experience interrupted by constantly having to swat at your arms and legs to prevent those annoying mosquito bites.
Thanks to this article with mosquitoverse.com, we have a few natural, homemade recipes to keep those nasty bugs away from our ankles as we enjoy the cookout. Two that really stand out to me is a beverage that comes in handy in the AM then a different beverage that comes in handy in the PM. Both coffee grounds and beer provide rejecting odors to mosquitoes.
Also garlic, which we all knew is a handy remedy to keep Count Dracula at bay, is also effective. When protecting yourself from bloodsuckers, garlic is the answer!
Along with those handier ingredients, you can also use a variety of oils- citronella, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, soybean, coconut, and lilac- will also work.
As you enjoy this summer by the pool or at a concert venue, you should get creative on a win-win. Something’s that multi-use- a nice garlic rub on grilled chicken, or a scent using oils that you may enjoy but mosquitoes despise, or a nice citronella candle.
…or you could just rub beer on your skin.
