The License Transition Year is Upon Us! Are You Ready?
The much anticipated transition year is here and with less than six months to go, make sure you and each of your agents is prepared.

Brokers, who received their broker’s licenses prior to July 1, 2012, MUST complete 24 hours of continuing education no later than June 30, 2014. These 24 hours include the 16 that were required as part of the normal renewal cycle, and an additional 8 that are required prior to June 30, 2014. Brokers who have received their broker’s licenses since July 1, 2014 by taking the 24-hour transition course do not have to take any further continuing education before July 1, 2014. For more information,  click here.

June 30, 2014 is the deadline for salespersons to have completed the 24-hour transition course.  Salespersons who have not completed this requirement by the deadline will lose their licenses and will be required to re-take the broker licensing course.  There is no grace period. Other News from MIBOR
A Window Into Customers
The 2013 Central Indiana Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers is now available. The study, oversampled specifically for the MIBOR service area by NAR, looks at buyer and seller demographics, activity and attitudes in 2013. The study also provides a unique look at how the central Indiana pool of buyers and sellers may differ from the rest of the country. For instance, 31 percent of buyers were first-time buyers in our market vs. 38 percent for the nation as a whole. Both are suppressed from the traditional norm of 40 percent. The study points to tightening lending conditions as a factor which may also account for the differences in married vs. single buyers.  Click here to review the executive summary.

Make Your Voice Heard at the Statehouse
Join members from across the state at the IAR Legislative Conference slated for January 27 & 28 in downtown Indianapolis. At the heart of this annual event is the REALTOR® Day at the Statehouse, which is an important opportunity to help shape laws and policies that affect your profession and the marketplace. It is true that there is strength in numbers and unity, so please plan to be part of IAR’s legislative success by  registering to attend.

Important Tax Information for MIBOR members
When doing your taxes this year, don’t forget the non-deductible portion of dues. Compliance with the Tax Reform Act of 1993 requires that the portion of dues attributable to lobbying and political activities at the State and Federal levels of government be considered nondeductible for income tax purposes. The following amounts represent the non-deductible portion of REALTOR® dues.

National Association of REALTORS®

42% of $120 = $50

Indiana Association of REALTORS®

18% of $180 = $32

Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS®

1 % of $250 = $3

Total non-deductible dues

Note: Dues billing also includes a $35 NAR Public Awareness Campaign special assessment that qualifies as fully deductible. Note: RPAC contributions, which may have been paid with member dues, are not tax deductible.  If you have questions, please contact Chris Pryor, MIBOR Government Affairs Director at 956-5240 or
