Prepping for the Indy Mini
It seems so far away, but May 2020 will be here before you know it. If you’re planning to participate in the Indy Mini, now is the time to start prepping and practicing so you’ll be ready to rock the race in the spring!
If you’re not familiar with the Indy Mini, it began in 1977 and became an official 500 Festival event in 1979. The Indy Mini, an Indianapolis tradition that hosts over 35,000 runners, joggers, walkers, and wheelchair racers, raises money for the 500 Festival’s free youth and educational programming. It’s a half marathon or 13.1 miles, though the 500 Festival offers several races at every participation level – even a mini mini for kids!
Running experts generally recommend starting training for races at least 14-16 weeks before an event, assuming you are already exercising regularly. There are several different training plans or apps that can assist you with creating a training plan that works for you. Experts also recommend completing a few double digit runs before race day – something that can be accomplished through the Indy Miler series.
