Foundation Makes First-ever Emergency Grants A woman and her children residing at Desert Rose Foundation in Morgan County knew it had been raining that Saturday in June, but they did not know that the water had risen so far that residents were being evacuated. Martinsville police did not evacuate them because, as a domestic violence shelter, their location is hidden-quite simply, the woman and her children were forgotten. It was only after wading through several inches of water to the nearest gas station that the woman and her children were rescued.
After hearing stories like these, the REALTOR® Foundation made its first-ever emergency grants to Desert Rose and Christian Help (located in Johnson County) of $5,000 each on June 30. Both organizations have stopped service while rebuilding and were extremely grateful for the grants.
The "Woo" Girls: Why We're Involved and What We're Doing Guest columnists Julie Catton (CENTURY 21 Realty Group-McCoun) and Marsha Patrick (CENTURY 21 Realty Group 1)
If you didn't stay for the dunk tank festivities at this year's Foundation Golf Outing, boy did you miss out! Where else can you find Mike Baker wearing a bikini silhouette? Or see MIBOR President-Elect Larry Mitchell winging baseballs to dunk current
President David Bickell? Or (this one is our favorite) John Dick posing as a Beach Boy? As the organizers and official "Woo" girls of the Foundation, we knew it would be a ton of fun!
We got involved with the Foundation because we care about those in our community who have been affected by circumstances outside their control, especially victims of domestic violence. Those women, who have left behind everything to save themselves and their
children, are our heroes. But we want to create awareness of the Foundation's efforts through fun activities such as the dunk tank. Feel free to send your creative ideas for Foundation Fun to us! Molly Hahn will forward them to us if you email her at mollyhahn@realtorfoundation.com. See you at next year's dunk tank! |
