Selling Over the Holidays Not all Bad

You are thinking holiday celebrations, visiting family, gift-giving, not selling your home, right? Well if you are interested in selling don’t overlook selling in the winter even right around the holidays. There is evidence that it might be worth the effort.

A recent Redfin study of 19 metropolitan cities showed that homes listed in winter were more likely to sell within six months and spent fewer days on the market compared to homes listed in other seasons. A similar study of theirs conducted in 2013 found winter to mean a nine percentage greater likelihood of selling, selling a week faster, and selling for 1.2 percent higher than homes listed in any other season.

Why? REALTORS® say it’s all about supply and demand. Fewer homes are listed for sale in the winter months making yours stand out. And winter buyers are motivated. Buyers willing to trudge through questionable weather aren’t just kicking the tires, they want to move. And for some its necessity. Many large companies put transfers into motion this time of year meaning buyers from other areas nee to relocate and find that home fast.

If you are interested in selling now, ask you REALTOR® what to expect.
