Has Technology Made You a Better House Hunter?

Our mobile-centric world has instituted a standard: information should be readily available at our fingertips at all times. It is no surprise that when it comes to searching for a house, technology is at the helm.

According to a recent profile of home buyers and sellers, of 42 percent of home buyers nationally, the first step in the home-buying process was looking online for properties and 14 percent of home buyers first looked online for information about the home buying process. In Indianapolis this was 45 percent for properties and 13 percent for information.

A poll conducted by Discover Home Loans shows that the top three ways buyers use online tools to find homes are: to scan real estate listings (83%), use maps to explore neighborhoods (72%), and use e-mail, apps, and websites to submit documents to lenders (71%).

The increased usage of technology, and the availability of information on homes, neighborhoods, lending and other details on the process have helped create ‘a more confident, informed buyer,’ said T.J Freeborn, senior manager of customer experience at Discover Home Loans.

It is important to note that while the process rarely begins without technology, buyers are still reaching out to real estate agents to complete the home purchase. Eighty-three percent of survey respondents say they work with real estate agents to purchase a home. Seventy-four percent do add that they think it's important that their agent is tech savvy.

Whether buying or selling a home, the reasons to work with a REALTOR® who can offer professional advice are many. Here are some of the top considerations.
