As you know, today is officially called “Patriot Day”, a national day of service and remembrance that commemorates the horrific events of September 11th, 2001. In honor of Patriot Day today, here are a few things you can do to show your patriotism:
- Learn the proper way to display and handle the flag – flying the flag outside your home is a great way to show your pride, but make sure you are following flag etiquette by ensuring that no other flag is flown higher than the national flag and that the flag doesn’t touch the ground or any surfaces beneath it. - Visit the Indianapolis 9/11 Memorial to pay your respects – Located on the downtown canal, the Indianapolis 9/11 Memorial stands as a reminder of the almost 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, including the nine Hoosiers that died that day.
- Spend time with your friends, family, and loved ones – Senator Bill Frist said, “September 11 impressed upon us that life is a precious gift … And I think we all have a duty to devote at least a small portion of our daily lives to ensuring that neither America nor the world ever forgets September 11.”
