In situations where individuals would simply like to educate or alert members to a potential violation of the Code of Ethics, license law, or local or federal statutes, a Problem Prevention Report is sent to the member in a pro-active effort to educate the member in the area of the potential violation. You may opt to remain anonymous.

What is the Ombuds Program?

The Ombuds Program in its simplest definition is informal telephone mediation. In some cases, it can address and solve minor complaints from the public. It can also solve inter-REALTOR® conflicts before they become serious problems. Like a mediator, an Ombuds helps parties find solutions. 

This free program is available to MIBOR members, their clients, and customers.

How Can I Request Ombuds Services?

Please compile the following information:

  • Name, contact information, and role of the complainant (that is, buyer, seller, broker, etc.)
  • Name, contact information, and role of the respondent
  • A description of the conflict

Submit this information in our online form below or call our Professional Services Department at 317-956-1912 Opt. 4. An Ombuds will be assigned to you and will attempt to contact you within two business days. All contact will be initiated by the Ombuds.

Citation Complaint

In situations where there is clear, strong, and convincing evidence of a Code of Ethics violation, a citation complaint may be filed. A citation complaint applies to specific events as outlined in the citation complaint form. The Grievance Committee will determine whether the complaint is citable, and a fine may be assessed.

Legal Hotline

To managing brokers only (or their designated agents), the REALTOR® Legal Hotline (1-800-444-5472) is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This service provides members with direct access to a qualified attorney who can offer information on real estate law, Real Estate Commission Regulations and related matters.

Publication Policy

The MIBOR Board of Directors adopted a Professional Standards Publication Policy effective July 1, 2019 to further promote the professionalism of its members. The names (not brokerage) of Code of Ethics violators who receive a certain level of discipline (or have a second finding in 3 years) will be published in a secure members-only area.
