Working from home certainly has its benefits. However, you are more prone to distractions in your home. Check out these tips that can take your home office to the next level and help redirect your focus!

Monitor height

You may not realize it, but the position your monitor is in, greatly impacts your posture and can cause eyestrain. Make sure your monitor is positioned at least an arm’s length away and that it sits at or just below eye level. Natural light

Getting plenty of natural light helps improve energy, productivity, and regulate sleep! So do yourself a favor and set up your home office in a room with plenty of natural light!

If you work after dark or have limited natural light, consider buying a soft desk/floor lamp to add some warmth and personality to your office space.

Investing in a better office chair

We all know maintaining good posture is crucial for someone who spends hours sitting at an office chair all week. If you experience back or neck pain throughout the day, your office chair may be hindering your posture and comfort. You may consider upgrading your office chair to a more comfortable ergonomic chair.  This will not only affect your health and wellbeing, but your productivity as well!

Improving your internet connection

Having a reliable internet connection is essential while working from home. It’s easy to get frustrated or distracted while dealing with slow internet speeds. If your service is subpar, consider upgrading your internet plan or changing to an alternative internet provider. You can also improve your connection by using a more powerful router, setting up a Wi-Fi extender, or using an ethernet cable for a stronger, more reliable connection.

Keeping distractions out of the way

One of the biggest challenges of working from home is maintaining focus.

You can help combat these distractions by having a dedicated work area that is separated from your living area, keeping tempting distractions out of your view, and keeping all office supplies within arm’s length to stay focused on work.

Second monitor

A second monitor can immensely improve productivity and multitasking. No more juggling multiple windows! For best results, buy the same model as your current setup to ensure compatibility.

Liven up your space

Having an office in your home gives you the freedom to make your office unique to you. Take advantage of this by adding some color to your walls, putting out some green plants, and adding decorations that make your space feel more like you!

Give your eyes a break

Staring at screens for too long can lead to eye strain and pain. To help avoid being affected by this, follow the 20-20-20 rule. Look away from the screen every 20 minutes or so and look at something around 20 feet away for about 20 seconds.

If you’re working after the sun goes down, adjust your screen color to a warmer (yellowish) tone, or night mode if your system supports it, to help avoid the adverse effects screens have on your sleep cycle.
